On her performance
Levito: Right before, I felt very shaky in my legs, and I hated this feeling because I have triple flip triple loop, and it's risky. But then I landed it, and I felt very stable, and I just think I really got into the program today. I think that was one of the best deliveries emotion-wise of this program for me, from all my practices. So I was really, really, really happy with that. From the small clips I've seen thus far, I think it looked really good, and it's really hard for me to actually think it looks good, so I think that's really good for me.
On working with Lori Nichol
Levito: This year I worked with Lori Nichol for the short program, and I've never worked with an outside choreographer before. I remember I was on tour and she sent me this music, and I was like, "I don't know." I usually am very in love with my music before I go with the program, and it felt mundane. And she was like, "Just trust me on this one." So I sent it to my federation, and they were like, "Oh, I think this is gonna be so beautiful." I was like, "Okay, guys, I trust everyone. I don't get it, but I trust you guys." And once I started working with her in person, building the program, I understood it right away. She was explaining to me the emotion that is in the song, which I didn't get by myself, and how it's vulnerable, and to hear the breathing underneath the music as well. Once I understood all of that and we started putting the choreography to it, then I started to really love it.
On changing her free skate
Levito: I had a very annoying injury this summer, and I didn't jump for about four months. When I did start jumping again, which is the longest time I spent without jumping, it was so hard. I felt like I had to relearn some things. I only started jumping in mid-August, and it was so, so hard. And then the Pirates program, we saw Kevin yesterday, and he was spectacular, and I can imagine how much energy that took out of him for two minutes and 50 seconds, and he killed it. I was struggling so hard just to do my triples on their own. I was trying to put things together, and it wasn't working. So I spoke to my federation, and they were like, "I think you should do something more achievable this season, given what kind of off-season you had." So that's what we went with, and I'm really glad we did that.
