More often than not, our suffering stems from comparison. We constantly measure our own lives against those of others, and in this endless comparison, our minds lose their inner poise and balance. Happiness, on the contrary, is never gained through contention or scramble; it grows and nourishes gradually in a heart that knows how to cherish. The more we fixate on gains and losses, the harder it is to maintain inner equilibrium; and the more unbalanced we become, the more worries and afflictions surge forth layer upon layer. In truth, within the inherent nature of each of us, there is already infinite light and purity. It is only those unshakable attachments and unresolved afflictions that, like dust and mist, obscure its original radiance. True liberation, in essence, is freeing oneself from these afflictions and attachments.——Respected Teacher Jia Cuo
