Let me make something very clear to the international community.

Brazil has a Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) responsible for overseeing federal elections. Yet today, Lula reportedly sought a two-hour extension of voting nationwide, citing transportation problems.

Who controls transportation policy in Brazil? The government led by Lula, not Flávio Bolsonaro.

But here is the most troubling part.

Rather than waiting for a ruling from the electoral tribunal, Lula reportedly turned to Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin, who ordered voting hours extended.

And who is Zanin? Lula’s former criminal defense attorney in his corruption cases.

That relationship alone does not prove wrongdoing. But the circumstances, the legal authority behind the decision and the speed of the ruling deserve immediate public scrutiny.

Brazilian voters deserve answers: Why was the extension necessary? Why was the matter handled by the STF rather than the TSE? What evidence justified the decision?

An election is not legitimate simply because a government declares victory. Its legitimacy depends on transparent procedures, judicial independence and public confidence.

Brazil cannot afford a Venezuelan-style crisis of electoral legitimacy.

The world is watching. @SimonLevyMx
