📍 LA Memory
Being away from home can be lonely sometimes, especially around the winter holidays. It was around this time I was feeling particularly down about my birthday; when I was younger, my mom would throw a huge pool party complete with a piñata and a rich chocolate cake. Some of my favorite memories are filled with the laughter and joy of these parties. But with no family to celebrate and so many of my friends busy, I started to dread the day. It wasn’t until my friend (and birthday twin) asked if I wanted to have a sleepover with her on our birthday. I was over the moon! So on a Friday evening right after eating dinner, she and I, as well as another close friend, kicked off the weekend with a trip to the mall. The next day on a bright and sunny afternoon (winter in SoCal is never really winter), we headed to a quaint town in Seal Beach where we would have tea. I can still remember the sweet aroma that filled the restaurant, the colorful teapots, and the ooey-gooey goodness of what might have been the best quiche of my life. After strolling around the pier during the sunset, we drove back to my friend's house, where we would count down the minutes till it would officially be our birthday and fall asleep in a comfortable mess of blankets. It was an amazing birthday!
