The eight techiques and five steps are the basic movements and skills.
Taijiquan, also known as tai chi (ji), is a traditional physical practice characterized by relaxed, circular movements that works in harmony with breath regulation and the cultivation of a righteous & neutral mind. Originated during the mid-17th century in Wenxian county in Henan province in Central China. It is now practiced throughout China by people of all ages and by different ethnic groups. Taijiquan's basic movements center on wubu (five steps 五步即:进步、退步、左顾、右盼、中定) and bafa (eight techniques 八步即:掤 bing、捊 pou、挤、按、采、挒 lie、肘zhou、靠) with a series of routines, exercises and tuishou (hand-pushing skills performed with a counterpart.) Influenced by Daoist and Confucian thought and theories of traditional Chinese medicine, the practice has developed into several schools (or styles) named after a clan or a master's personal name. These are passed down through clan-based transmission or the master-apprentice model, and build upon the yin and yang cycle, and the cultural understanding of the unity of heaven and humanity.
New entry from China, Taijiquan was added to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage List on December 17, 2020.

Chen style tai chi quan, the original form of tai chi was created in the 1600s by a retired general, Chen Wang Ting 陈王廷(1600-1680) Unlike the highly popular Yang style, which derived from it in the 19th century, Chen tai chi is characterized by soft and hard, slow and fast movements alike. While it emphasizes a relax body, a calm and focused mind and flowing moments - principles at the core of all tai chi styles - It is more robust than the other styles and retains a distinct martial flavor, as characterized by the brisk practice routine known as Cannot Fist. The secret of tai chi lies in the fact that its movements exist not of themselves, but are elements in an ancient tapestry of thought and consciousness, combining philosophy, healing and fighting into a single fabric.
陈式太极拳特点是:刚柔并济,快慢相间,松活弹抖,虚实开合,起落旋转等。陈王廷被誉为“文事武略,皆卓越于吋”。Chen Wang Ting (1600-1680) was renowned for his outstanding talent in both literature and military affairs
太极拳集顾养性情,强身健体、技击对抗等诸多功能于一体,结合易学的阴阳五行之变化。
