Mount Meru) 須彌山（座）

Mount Sumeru (literary means “mountain of marvellous height”) is a presentation of the Buddhist world outlook. Buddhism relates that Mount Sumeru is supposed to be the center of the world. On the top of it lies the legendary paradise where Sakyamuni and men of moral integrity live after death. The position of the stars near the peak roughly corresponds to the findings of modern astronomy. On the slopes are the dwellings for mankind and the Celestial Kings. At the bottom, the floral design stands for sea waves. Below the seas are evil spirits, devils or criminals plunged into the Hell.
按照佛教的觀念，須彌山是世界的中心。世界的最底層是風輪，其上是水輪，最上是地輪，地輪之上有九山八海，山海之間是須彌山。須彌山的下部是山水交錯的造型，上下分七層。須彌山的中部代表山巒和平原，即人類生活的地方。再往上，東、南、西、北四方各有一排宮殿，代表四大部洲：即東勝神洲、南瞻部洲、西牛賀洲、北俱盧洲。須彌山的頂部是一座別致的小壇城，是帝釋天居住的地方，即所謂的天堂。值得注意的是，小壇城的下部代表宇宙空間裏，有數以百計星宿有規律地分佈著，星宿之間有線相連接，形成一組組的星座，據天文學專家說，星座的佈局和標記大體上符合當今天文學的研究成果。
須彌山 梵語Sumeru，意為“妙高”古印度傳說中的名山。 以它為人們所住的世界的中心。日月環繞次山迴旋出沒，三界諸天也依之星層層建立，四方有東勝身、南瞻部、西牛貨、北俱盧四個洲。佛教也採用此說，以須彌山為題材，造像繪畫，表示天上景觀。
Mount Sumeru (also known as Diamond Throne) is a traditional Chinese architectural foundation. It used to be the foundation of Buddha’s statue. Later, it was used for architecture. It is usually built of bricks with embossing lines and decorative patterns.
須彌座又名“金剛座”我國傳統建築的一種台基。原為佛像下的基座，後為建築所採用。一般用磚或石砌成，上有凹凸線腳和紋飾。
四大部洲是古印度神話中人類居住的世界。位於須彌山四方鹹海中。四大部洲即：東方勝身洲，因以人身形殊勝而得名，地形如半月，人面亦然；南方瞻部洲，因有“瞻部”樹而得名，地形如車，人面亦然；西方牛貨洲，因以牛貿易而得名，地形如滿月，人面亦然；北方俱盧洲（意為“勝處”），因其地勝於其他三洲而得名，地形正方，人面亦然。此說後被佛教所採用。
