🍉 carve up sth

carve 作动词，有「把...切成块」的意思。

比如：▪️ Who's going to carve the turkey? 谁来把火鸡切成小块？

carve up sth 则指「瓜分，分割」，带有贬义，有一种把一个庞然大物，像切割一块大肥肉一样，瓜分殆尽的感觉。

比如：▪️They have been accused of carving up the industry for their own benefit.

他们被控为谋求私利而瓜分了该行业。

▪️The Ottoman Empire was carved up by Britain and France after World War I.

奥斯曼帝国在第一次世界大战后被英、法两国瓜分了。

▪️We need to carve up this massive project into manageable tasks.
