Do not painfully crave the favor of others from outside; all deliberate seeking arises from ego-attachment, which seeks to establish the self and affirm one’s existence through external circumstances. Yet clinging to the outer world will only let the mind drift with situations, giving rise to endless troubles and afflictions. On the path of spiritual cultivation, if you wish to benefit others, you must first calm and settle your own mind. Keep a peaceful and pure state of mind, and nurture a stable and healthy body. In this life, the first one you should treat with gentleness and kindness is yourself. Cultivate your original mind and maintain your inner state, and you will naturally attract good karmic connections. Stay sober and self-disciplined, inwardly abundant and tranquil, always cherish compassion and practice good deeds, so that you can quietly nurture good roots and blessings, and gradually step into a stable and harmonious journey of life.——Respected Teacher Jia Cuo
