Ming Dynasty celadon bowl with the character "溪" (xi) in reverse.
This bowl, discovered at a construction site on Taikang Road in 2015, is part of the Ming Dynasty Guangdong imitation Longquan celadon collection. The underside of the bowl features a reverse-stamped character “溪” (xi), a typical monogram decoration from local Guangdong kilns. This illustrates both the informality of the production process and may also have had an anti-counterfeiting purpose. functional shape corresponds with the export-focused approach of Guangdong kilns during the Ming Dynasty, which prioritized practicality and mass production. As a common artifact found at the Taikang Road site, it reflects the thriving trade environment of Guangzhou during the Ming Dynasty, where various celadon types were gathered, distributed, and exported.
