从研究方向上说我与michael berry联系程度不到1%
从学派上berry是我uk导师圈子里的灵魂人物，为此我们这些徒子徒孙与他接触甚多
这位优雅，智慧的老爷爷是我心中科学家最应该拥有的，也最完美的样子

从科研的角度上我吸取的知识甚少，甚至没有完整的读完过一篇berry的文章
但是berry的演讲风格，清晰的逻辑，神乎其神却又深入浅出的阐释以及那些让人经常眼前一亮的俚语，如沐春风的英音，是我最喜欢的，也是最受用的。

多年以来，我经常下意识内化berry的好多口头禅为己用，模仿他幽默的表达方式以及别具一格的演讲开头范式用在conference上，但常常是只得其形，不得其意。遂以wb的平台随手记录一下berry的金句：

“Physics is not just concerning the nature of things but concerning the interconnectedness of all the natures of things”

“this is the chain of connections involving people with different types of genius” （爱因斯坦起初目的是研究量子效应而提出的光子激光思想，后人在此idea的基础上引发了激光的诞生）

“quantum physics democratized music”

“Physics always has consequences but that’s not the reason why we do it” （这里时化用了feynman的句子，physics is like sex, it may give some practical results, but that’s not why we do it”

“It’s a huge subject, there’s a great deal written about it and much wisdom but not by me”

“The most brilliant intellect that the city where are now has ever produced” (太nb了，用来夸一个人）

“True but not real” （我们感受到的一切都是真实的，但是我们的感受并不是这个世界的真相） 就像是你照镜子，你感受像是镜子里有另一个对称的你，这是实实在在的感受，但其实没有，那只是光的反射）

“ everything in the nature has been discovered, we just try to understand them at different levels”

“You pay a price by going to this deepest level because the deeper you go, the farther you are from the phenomenon” (优雅的解释了基础科研与应用的互斥）

“it’s ridiculous to think that from this limited perspective,….”

“Research compete is a natural human enthusiasm but you know we all stand in the shoulders of giants, and so we’ve learn somehow to combine our individual inquiring minds into a kind of group mind. Humanity has developed into what we call a group mind, we are still separate little minds and brains but we all learn from each other”

最后关于berry对于当代ai的看法：

berry说早在弦论诞生初期，他在加州理工遇见弦论的创始人之一问了一个问题，对方说这是baby practice级别的事情几周内就会有结果，然而30年过去了依然是悬而未决的事情，berry以此来比喻AI的未来。同时他说到，AI势必改变世界的某一部分，但是会在一个难以预测的时刻以及难以预测的方式。在很多个学科里都有，或者正在发生着AI时刻，这是一种人类对于新技术的热情，而物理学家应该保持冷静并理解别人的热情，或者是Hinton的冷淡”
