I am British and I can tell you. Virtually every single NHS hospital in the United Kingdom is vastly understaffed, underfunded and dilapidated.
The British glorification of the NHS is ridiculous. Yes, healthcare is free but at what cost ? My mother had a series of severe strokes and was bedridden in Hospital. She was incapable of looking after herself. She had to be hand-fed. She didn’t even know where she was. Me and my husband went to visit her. We noticed a table in her room with a full plate of cold, dried up food. When we asked the nurses ( who were all crowded around the main nurse station laughing and joking. ) where the food came from we were told, “ if she wants it she can get it herself, we’re not her servants “.
My mother was literally skeletal. Genuinely bed bound. She was hooked up to tubes, she was catheterized. The table with the food was purposely left out of reach so she couldn’t have fed herself even if she were able. On one visit she was so hungry she was trying to eat cotton balls that a nurse had left next to her. After my mothers death we found out that without our knowledge the hospital had put her on something which was called the “ Liverpool Care Pathway “ where they literally deny a patient food and water to hasten their death. The treatment my mother received was disgusting. The hospital was filthy. The nursing staff cocky and uncaring. Hearing other people’s stories I’m sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve personally witnessed dreadful treatment of patients. Is Lucy Letby guilty ? I can’t say but what I can say is the British NHS is an embarrassment . Would they lie to hide their shortcomings, I have no doubt that they would.
