看到有朋友说今天是苏格兰诗人Robert Burns 的生日。我们这一代学外语的，都可能读过他的诗，至少读过A red red rose 。他另外一首叫Ae fond kiss也写得很有意思，好像国内介绍的不多。诗有点长，开头几句是这样的：

Ae fond kiss, and then we sever;
Ae fareweel, and then forever!
Deep in heart-wrung tears I'll pledge thee,
Warring sighs and groans I'll wage thee….

这几句我一直很喜欢。刚才突然好奇这首诗的译文，网上查到了王佐良先生的翻译，很遗憾有好几处错误。

一次亲吻，然后分手，
一朝离别，永不回头！
用绞心的眼泪我向你发誓，
用激动的呜咽我向你陈词，

fond kiss好像不是亲吻，fond 类似fond memories 里的fond, pledge 和wage应该也译错了, pledge 和 Ben Jonson 的To Celia’里的pledge应该是一个意思，

Drink to me only with thine eyes,
And I will pledge with mine;

wage 不是“陈词”的意思，应该和Shakespeare 的Coriolanus这句He waged me with countenance, as if I had been mercenary 里的wage一样。牛津大词典有解释的。

诗歌翻译真很难。
