Reconciling with the fact that our lives as Asian women in the world requires a baseline level of defense, that we must always have our sword within reach. But reconciliation comes first from acknowledgement. Once you stop expecting the world to be fair, the moments of unfairness stop feeling like personal shocks and start feeling like predictable obstacles, like bad weather.
We can't wish for a different world, but we can learn to master this one.
