This morning, I listened to a podcast while jogging. It was the second episode of an English conversation series, about someone asking his boss for an assistant.
His boss approached him and said, "I told you we don’t have the resources. The economy is tough, so we can’t hire an assistant for you right now." The employee then suggested getting an intern instead, explaining that an intern would take some work off his shoulders and cut costs at the same time. His boss wasn’t convinced and said he’d get back to him soon.
A few days later, his boss came to him again and told him to come meet his new assistant. He was thrilled—until a deep voice said, "I’m Eden." He was totally surprised, realizing he’d made a slightly sexist assumption that his assistant would be a woman.
