Finally got to watch 战战’s new movie! It was so good! Of course I had read all the glowing reviews prior to watching it for myself, but even then it completely lived up to the hype. I think it’s particularly hard to depict humour within such a serious and devastating context, but 得闲谨制 managed to do this without feeling like it was making a mockery of history and the plight of those who had suffered through this period in time.

I laughed, I cried. I left feeling extremely grateful for those who fought hard for the freedom that we don’t often give a second thought to, and feeling heartbroken for those who weren’t afforded this fundamental human right.

I especially felt deeply for 战战’s character on the occasions when he had to say goodbye to his family. 战战acted this so beautifully - the tenderness in his eyes, mixed with fear and despair at his almost certain impending doom just hit me right in the heart and had me sobbing.

Great film! Well worth watching! I’m a very proud fan! ❤️.
