"Illusory roots and dust" refer to the six sense organs generating six kinds of consciousness minds in response to the six sense objects. This is limited in the Hinayana teachings of that time and is called "Dharma gives rise to mind, mind gives rise to Dharma." "Where is it inverted?" Where is this illusory root and dust of ours inverted? It is upside down at the top of the six doors. The six sense gates are generally referred to as the last seven transformations of consciousness. Are the last seven transformations of consciousness the same as the first seven transformations of consciousness? It's nothing more than a matter of division of labor before and after. When we cease to indulge in delusions, the seventh transformation consciousness becomes a half-part manas, and at this time it is specifically clinging to the eighth consciousness.
汝修菩提,若不审观烦恼根本,则不能知,虚妄根尘何处颠倒:「虚妄根尘」,是六根对六尘产生六种意识心,这个局限在当年小乘法里,叫做「法生心生,心生法生」。「何处颠倒」,我们这个虚妄根尘颠倒在哪里啊?就颠倒在六根门头。六根门头,一般说为后七转识。后七转识跟前七转识是不是一个东西啊?它无非是一个前后分工的问题。当我们停止妄想的时候,七转识成了半分末那,它这个时候专门在攀缘第八识。
