We can’t all be normal, but maybe next to normal is enough
(In English because my Chinese isn’t good enough)
This is a story about grief - the family grieving over Gabe’s death, Diana grieving over the life she lost due to her illness (that line 「人生が恋しい、私の人生が恋しい」hits me every time), and Dan and Natalie grieving over the shell of a person that Diana became.
Everyone is in pain, everyone made mistakes (the only exception is Henry, who is just a genuinely good kid), but everyone is just trying their best to live.
In the end nothing is “fixed” per se (Diana is still ill, the family is broken, etc.), but there are signs of hope - Diana is willing to leave the house and her memories of her dead son behind, Dan finally began to realize he too is struggling, and Natalie is starting to accept herself.
Watching this feels cathartic… life may still feel like living on a cliffside not knowing when you'll fall, some wounds may never heal, but maybe there is a way to survive, maybe we will someday see the sun
