雅克-路易·大卫（Jacques-Louis David, French, 1748-1852）是法国著名画家，新古典主义(Neo-classism)画派的奠基人。大卫深受古罗马和意大利文艺复兴时期艺术的影响，他的作品常常包含古典艺术元素，如古典雕塑的姿势和主题。大卫的艺术成就不仅体现在他自身的作品上，还在于他培养了许多后来著名的画家，如安格尔和杰利柯等。

大卫的作品线条和形状都非常清晰明确，没有过多的装饰性细节，这一点与巴洛克和洛可可风格的复杂装饰形成对比。他的肖像画被公认具有永恒的价值，无论是线条，还是色彩，既平滑又富有个性，并始终保持着人们赞赏的理性美。

Madame Récamier, the wife of a banker, was famed throughout Europe for her beauty and elegance. The clothing and furniture in David's portrait, imitating classical Greek simplicity, were the height of fashion in 1800. The furniture pieces, made by the cabinetmaker Jacob-Desmalter, are held by the Louvre.
