"Paragraphic Single Stack" is Brian_Thoreen's first use of manila paper stacks in turniture design. Similar to his tar paper wall works, these chairs are created by gluing wrinkled paper sheets in specific areas, allowing non-glued sections to release tension. This method uses industrial paper, commonly seen in file folders and envelopes, symbolizing the organization of information in our lives.
Thoreen's practice blends the rigid geometries of modernism with playful, imperfect forms and materials. These chairs, defining their own space, are both sturdy and fragile, providing a resting place without comfort. Thoreen aims to rediscover beauty through the manipulation of space and material.
