Vaccine against Covid-19 to arrive in Ukraine no earlier than spring of 2021

Currently, the number of beds in health care facilities for patients with coronavirus infection is 23,000, 3,895 of which are occupied by patients. Thus, more than 80% of them remain vacant. This was stated by the Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko during a briefing that was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV channel.

He also noted that 350 beds were occupied in intensive care units while 82 patients were under artificial lung ventilation at first-wave hospitals.

"At the same time, we are preparing second-wave hospitals. So far, we have clearly prepared 11,576 beds at second-wave hospitals that are ready to accept patients with coronavirus. At the same time, we see some problems in some areas of organizing patient routes and transportation to health-care facilities. Therefore, together with the Minister of Health, the National Health Insurance Fund and the directors of health departments, we are holding some conference calls and working out mechanisms on how to involve hospitals that are not included in the first wave today. We will point out all the defects in certain areas," Lyashko said.

Ukraine will not be able to defeat the pandemic if citizens and businesses do not comply with the restrictive measures that the Cabinet of Ministers has developed. Chief sanitary doctor Viktor Lyashko said this on the air of Ukraine 24 TV channel.

According to Lyashko, the increase in the number of infected people depends on the softening of lockdown and people's perception of adaptive lockdown as the abolition of all restrictions.

"There is a problem (violation of the quarantine regime, - ed.) that needs to be resolved. There were discussions with businesses, representatives of associations, organizations in order to set norms that will actually work. Non-registration of norms leads to their violation, violations form a negative image and a potential source of infection," he said.

Ukraine should not expect the vaccine against coronavirus to arrive until the spring of 2021. Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Viktor Lyashko said this on the air of the Freedom of Speech show, Ukrinform reports.

"When we talk about the COVID-19 vaccine, we know that 155 studies are underway, 7 have reached the third or second stage. We expect it as soon as possible, but we understand that batch production and mass delivery will not take place until spring 2021",he said.

According to him, vaccine manufacturers will not distribute it on a quota basis, based on economic indicators. The formulas and the vaccine itself will be released evenly for other countries.

At the same time, Lyashko is convinced that Ukraine needs to restore its own production of vaccines, and this will be the next stage after overcoming the epidemic of coronavirus disease.

Earlier an alliance was created between four countries (Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands) with the aim of developing a vaccine against coronavirus. Ukraine has asked them to provide priority in the distribution of the vaccine.

It also became known that in the United States the coronavirus vaccine has successfully passed the initial stage of medical trials.

Now in the world, 17 vaccines against coronavirus are being tested in humans. The most promising is the vaccine developed by the University of Oxford. It was the first to enter the third phase of clinical research.
