These days in Israel we celebrate Passover (also known as Pesah) which is a major Jewish holiday.
This holiday is to tell the story of the escape of the Israelites from slavery from ancient Egypt, That jewish people believe and tell was caused by god inflicting ten plagues upon the Egyptians before the Pharaoh would release the Israelite slaves.
The last of the plagues was the death of the Egyptian first-born. The Israelites were instructed to mark the doorposts of their homes with the blood of a slaughtered spring lamb and, upon seeing this, the spirit of the Lord knew to pass over the first-born in these homes, hence the English name of the holiday.
During time, This holiday was celebrated through thousands of years with all the expanded family sitting around the table, without getting up, and telling the story of the release from Egypt. This year was the first time in thousands of years that Jewish people couldn’t sit together with their family due to the Covid-19 virus and government curfew.
However, Jewish people found a way, as they all plugged online and celebrated the holiday through the screens, gathering together and keeping the tradition and heritage alive.
Covid-19 might prevent us from physically keeping our heritage, but it can’t stop our spirit and soul from doing so, as like the people of China, our heritage was formed within our hearts.
